swimmin' dogs.

our favorite place to be with the dogs in the summer: the park.

we especially love SM Park with the lake - and so does macy. kirkwood also took the plunge, at a much earlier age than macy did. he's not too sure of the water yet, but we hope that he will learn to love the water as much as macy does.

our back yard.

colby and i spent the entire weekend outdoors. planting flowers, a couple of shrubs, and mulching - our final touches for the season. now we get to sit back and watch things grow! we could use a little help from mother nature.. 5 consecutive days of blazin' hot sun and no rain wasn't what we had in mind right after a weekend of planting. ;)

here are a few pictures of our back yard as it's finally coming together!

our new patio set - where we enjoyed nearly every meal of our weekend. :)
and i got 3 hanging baskets this year - aren't they cute?

colby put in the stone path and small shrub last month.
we've also planted some creeping jenny (clovery ground cover) within the stone wall that you can see if you look closely.

"i believe the view from your porch is better than the one from your couch."

a growin' boy.

kirkwood is getting bigger by the day. he's such a skinny guy; macy was a much chubbier puppy. our little boy on stilts will one day grow into his granddaddy long legs. he's 15 lbs now, only 60 more to go!

he now sleeps through the night, but regardless of what time we go to bed, it's rise and shine at 6 a.m. i can't remember how long it took before macy finally started sleeping in until we were ready to get out of bed, but i will be very happy when that day comes!

he's learning to sit, stay, lay down, and kennel. he's biting less, and playing better. he is by no means an angel, often searching for a forbidden object to chew on, but progress has definitely been made. although tiring at times, he has been a lot of fun to have around, and a great playmate for our macygirl.

we've had a lot of adventures - including trips to the park (both the small dog park by our house, and the Shawnee Mission park with the lake!), walks on the leash around the neighborhood, trips to Shakes Frozen Custard for "pup cups", attending swim practice with colby, and more.

so basically, our lives currently revolve around our dogs..

and i'm lovin' it. :)

where i come from.

it's funny to think of the things i miss about home. like corn fields. yes, corn fields. and country roads - a country mile uninterrupted by stop lights. the smell and feel of line dried towels. and the cock-a-doodle-do [at random times of the day] of the roosters. all such silly things that i never thought twice about while i was there. but they have become things i look forward to during my visits.

as much as i miss the simplicity of the country, i also don't wish to leave behind the life i have here. not now, anyway. but maybe one day the appeal of the "simple life" will draw teamdischinger in. i think a slab of land with our dogs would suit colby and i well one day. :)
