kissane family visit.

we just had the best weekend with my family. nevermind that it had been the most incredible july ever weather-wise. the third mildest in kc history, even! and here we are in our first weekend of august, my parents, derek, and buttons arriving, and it's 95 degrees all weekend long!! nevermind that.

we kicked it of kansas city style, and took them out for barbecue to oklahoma joe's for dinner when they got in. i'd never been much of a bbq fan, mostly because i've never been much of a meat fan.. but kc bbq really is something worth bragging over.

then saturday morning, we took them to our favorite saturday morning spot: the farmer's market. i think we bought the place out: blackberries, blueberries, black cherries, peaches, tomatoes, squash, sweet corn, pasta, spices, fudge, sausage. oh, and then we stopped at winslow's for lunch for round 2 of kc bbq.

i used the berries to make a crisp, and my dad brought me his sourdough starter, and made a loaf of bread and cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing!! my belly was full all weekend long. :) oh happy day.

the rock.

our custom-order purchase from the farmer's market was a success. we always walked by this booth of mizzou, ku, kstate, royals, etc. stone creations, and always admired. so a couple of weeks ago we asked the man if he could take custom orders. we were the first hoosier request he'd had, but i think he did an excellent job, and it turned out so well!

proud to have this on my front step.

dinner is served.

my husband has taken over dinner-duty. only until it's back to school time for him. but i'll take it!!

paula deen is colby's favorite, so the majority of the recipes he has been using come from her. since he's put me on a gain 10 pounds 'diet' i don't think paula's "I start this recipe out like I do all my others - with a stick of butter" motto will be a problem.

oooooh my baby can cook!!! ;-)
