wood floors: a new house.

the unveiling of our new! wood! floors!

you don't have to think it to yourself, because we've already thunk it out loud: HEY BROWN. so while we're not ready to replace our couches, and we love the color of the floors, it IS time for a wall make-over. funny how one project leads to another, eh? so that's next on our list. hopefully by year-end, and not another year down the road. we have some crazy high ceilings, and we're going big by having the WHOLE house re-done (bye-bye johnson county beige, too!), so we're awaiting the funds to pay a professional. stay tuned!

the front entry way was white tile that met white carpet at the back of the couch and stairs. i think one of my favorite places that the hardwoods exist now is that set of stairs. that bottom step was also home to a pink fingernail polish spill after being accidentally dropped by my niece. as a general statement, i'm happy to be rid of our white carpet. (which was no longer white) it just doesn't mix well with a toddler and two big and active dogs.

to the right of the spindles below was a white carpeted room as well. this is the one the dogs would run to immediately after coming indoors to track their muddy paws. (of course we'd wipe them off, but it's virtually impossible to have them completely clean)

and lastly, our kitchen. colby gave our cabinets a make-over  before the floors were re-done knowing the clashing of the wood finishes would drive us bonkers. once oak, now a cream with some faint antiquing - i love my kitchen so much right now!!!! i seriously feel like i'm living in a completely new house.

another hot, hot summer.

it's hot. and it's gonna stay hot. so we spend close to none of our time just being outside unless we're at the pool or it's 7 AM. but as long as i have an air conditioned home to be sheltered by, you will not hear me complain - i'd take this any day over a brutally cold winter day. in fact, while hell is blazing outdoors, i'm usually sitting at my desk WITH MY HEATER ON because i'm freezing in the clinic. i'm sure you can imagine the comments i get for that one. so bring on the heat, but could you spare us some rain? crunchy grass doesn't feel good on my bare feet.

ok, that's it. a check in to tell you about the weather. am i lame or what?

owen's latest dance moves.

park place, a local shopping center, offers free thursday night concerts during the summer. once a month, a children's' band is the entertainment. on a whim, we decided to head out on thursday to see what it would be like.

for a little while, owen hovered closely to take in the mass crowds and loud music. but after a bit, he warmed up enough to debut his latest signature dance moves.

i cant figure out where this came from, as he certainly hasn't seen me down on the ground dancing. but it's literally every time the mood strikes him to dance, he spends 90% of the time with his hands on the ground, and one leg kicked into the air.

it turned out to be an entertaining event, and we hope to get out there again before the end of summer.

camp dischinger.

three weeks ago, my family checked into camp dischinger on a monday afternoon. we checked out on saturday morning.

we are thankful to colby's brother & wife for taking us in - toddler & dogs included - for the week while we were evacuated from our house during the hardwood floor installation. as it turns out, having a 4:2 adult to child ratio living under one roof is quite functional.

and, kinda fun. :)

i have very few pictures to show from camp mostly because we all kept quite busy, and also because we tried to keep our belongings as condensed as possible to avoid any unnecessary clutter - my camera stayed stowed away until our final morning.

between the 4 of us, 1 or more of us were gone most nights, so we layed low our final night together: some burgers on the grill paired with drew's new margarita recipe & TCBY for dessert. saturday's closing ceremony included em's incredible crepes for breakfast while sitting on their back porch watching the kids play in the garden sprinklers.

same time next summer?

i'll share pictures in the near future of our house transformation. i'm in looooove.

kale chips.

Ingredients :: kale bunch, olive oil, sea salt, fresh parmesan

Directions :: Preheat oven to 350. Separate leaves of kale from stems. Toss kale with a light drizzle of olive oil and fresh ground sea salt. Spread evenly on baking tray, then sprinkle fresh parmesan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 when edges begin to brown and kale becomes crispy.

A quick, easy, and healthy snack!

I even convinced Owen to eat one. One. But that's a success in this house. :)
