owen is officially potty-trained!
it was a bit of a roller coaster since our second round of potty training bootcamp, but we're finally there.
our biggest obstacle was convincing him to tell his teachers, nana, aunt em, etc. when he needed to go potty when he wasn't at home. this was challenging and frustrating for us at home because, rather quickly at home, we were able to trust him to come to us even without checking with him when he needed to potty. but as soon as we'd send him off to school, or to someone's house, he'd get tied up in whatever activities he'd be doing, and even deny needing to go, and would ultimately result in an accident. each day was the host to many successful trips, but also to an accident or two.
a couple of weeks had gone by, and the accidents were becoming less frequent. i was certain we were almost there. but about a month out from full time underwear-wearing, owen regressed. i'm uncertain what may have caused this - although, i've been told it's quite common in the process - but i wanted to reverse it ASAP. fortunately, this was about the time of colby's spring break. it gave us the chance to regroup, and to give owen a week of 1-on-1 attention and time with his daddy to encourage and keep a watchful eye.
and since then? it's been a walk in the park. i think 1-2 accidents total since the end of spring break a month ago.
he's still in pull-ups at night, but most nights even those are dry. (and we haven't even bothered putting any stress on keeping dry at night. honestly, i couldn't have cared less about nighttime. daytime potty training was a priority, so i wanted to master that before we started working on nighttime.)
it was really great to be able to take our weekend vacation to indiana without packing any diapers - without worry of diaper changes or accidents on the plane, etc. it won't hurt my feelings any to have a break from buying diapers for the next few months. and i'll just take everyone's word that life with one child in diapers is way better than life with two in diapers. :)
do you want to know my favorite part? little boy underwear is the cutest. there's not much in the way of little boy wardrobe shopping that can trump little girl wardrobe shopping. but i must admit that little boy briefs and boxer briefs definitely take the cake to little girl undies.
so incredibly proud of my potty trained little boy. yeah, owen!
