This morning, for the first time in a very long time, I had reached the point where after almost a week without running I found myself itching to go for a run. My runs are normally accompanied by a friend - having someone meet you at the crack of dawn keeps you accountable. Although I always feel good after I run, most 5AM alarms aren't welcomed. Reaching the point of wanting to run - without my running friends, after a 4-hour night of sleep, and on a day I'd otherwise not have had to wash my hair (the struggle is real) - I'd say it's a game changer.
Some takeaways from this morning's run with Kirkwood: [a] 8:30 AM is a lot different than 5:30 AM in June. Holy humidity. [b] Having a running partner who is quicker than you becomes painfully apparent about a mile in. [c] I may have had a faster mile time, but running partners who can talk Bachelor or toddler shenanigans with you during the run make the time pass MUCH more quickly.
