my weekend in photos.

During a busy time of year for our family, I sure do look forward to weekends for some extra time with them to regroup after a long work week.

A no student day allowed for the two of us to sneak away for a rare lunch date at a new spot.

We loved it and plan to go back soon!

Macy watches tv, too, when a canine is on.

We were fortunate to have Daddy around for the morning and capitalized on that time with a trip out for breakfast, then to cash in on Owen's Christmas gift at iFly.

I think Colby & I, as spectators, enjoyed it as much as Owen did. (And Brooks and Sadie, too, thanks to cheez-its from a vending machine, and a little boy who liked to share his candy with his new friends.)

The toddlers and I stayed home after a long morning out while Owen and Colby ran off for his game.

Then, much to my liking, they arrived home after a pit stop to the grocery with fixin's for dinner and dessert.

Sundays are kind of like a broken record with our standard church, Costco run, family time at home, and back out for small group. But it's a routine I love.

We had a good weekend together - ready to take on another work week and dive into February!

life::an outtake.

January is busy. And coming off of the holiday season, that is usually hard on us. Somewhere between mid-January and mid-February, one or all of us are coming down with colds. Add the cold weather, lack in sunshine, and long work days (for both of us), and you can guarantee I'm counting down the days until spring is here.

Swim season allows for very little reprieve from being on dinner-duty. My Hyvee freezer meal night is my saving grace for our healthy dinner menus (with an occasional meal from my MIL!), but crock-pot dinners wear themselves out after awhile - especially when dealing with picky eaters who groan at anything that comes from my beloved slow-cooker.

So last night when Colby and Owen showed up with grocery bags after his basketball game, I couldn't have been more excited to have a non-slow-cooker/casserole dinner. He made us steak, a fresh salad, and some homemade bruschetta with avocado and salmon.

They also picked up a box of brownie/cookie mix, which is against my from-scratch dessert standard. However, I let the box mix slide out of principle of a sweet gesture.

my weekend in photos.

There were big talks of an impending "ice storm" to hit Kansas City - causing allllllllltheschools to cancel Thursday night for the following Friday. As it turned out, not a single drop or speck of anything ever fell from the sky until Saturday morning. There sure was a lot of negative buzz about that decision.

As for me, I "braved the weather" with my bestie for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Businesses were closing early, and a lot of weekend activities cancelled - including basketball for Owen, swim practices for Colby, and even a delayed NFL playoff game in KC.

So Saturday morning Colby & I cleaned to prep for a houseful of small guests, while the kids played nicely together.

But staying home gets old quickly for my small people, so we ran errands as a family - just to get the kids out of the house, with the Target Starbucks being our final destination.

We had 12 kiddos, 6 and under in our home Saturday night. It was a wonderful version of crazy town. Lucky to know and love their mamas and daddies.

Sadie has a natural maternal instinct in her. She loves babies.

Sunday morning threatened some precipitation, so we decided to stay home and get pumped for the Chiefs game.

Even I got in the spirit this year. (to no avail.) It's my 10th year living in KC, so it's about time I cheer on this side of the football fence, too.

But the decision to stay home from church was regretted by 11AM, so we had to get out of the house again. We did some furniture shopping, made returns, and had lunch together - and somehow we even wore this one out! (Who never car sleeps.)

These things call out to me after awhile.

It's another day off for the rest of my family tomorrow for the MLK holiday, but back to work for me!

my weekend in photos.

We spent out New Year's weekend in Indiana for a belated Christmas visit with my dad for a second consecutive extended weekend.

Cracker Barrel errrrrytime.

After a long day on the road, we ended the day around the Christmas tree opening gifts.

Anything outside of Sadie's bedroom in our own house is not an ideal sleeping situation for her. (And even that is a stretch.) So we gave up and let her sleep between Colby and I for our stay. I have a feeling that will not play out well back home.

Brooksy and I ran errands on Saturday morning around town, with our primary focus being on picking up cake ingredients from "the Apple store" (supermarket with a big apple on the sign) to make Daddy's favorite chocolate mayonnaise cake for his birthday.

Owen always takes full advantage of the available board game opponents.

We had a 4:30 PM mexican dinner (#whenatgrandpas) out with extended family.

Then we let the kids run wild at Grandpa's house for our "low-key" NYE. I lasted until 10:30, which is 9:30 KC time, and never even poured a glass of wine. And I'm not even sad about it.

For New Year's Day, we headed to have brunch at my friend Erin's house with some of my favorite HS ladies and their families. Spending the first day of the year with some of my oldest and greatest friends is destined to be a great year, right?

We had another early dinner out, and then came home for some birthday cake and candles for the birthday guy.

Nighttime cartoon ritual to tame the crazy.

Monday morning was here before we knew it, wrapping up our quick visit in the Hoosier state.

We hit the road, making a detour for a Cracker Barrel breakfast with family, getting to meet my cousin's newest little lady who's enthusiasm was lacking to meet me.
